Prime Minister Viktor Orbán greeted the participants of the movement, which has become one of the most significant charitable initiatives of Hungarian farmers in the Carpathian Basin, in a letter.

In the letter read by the Prime Minister's Commissioner Zsolt Nyitrai, Viktor Orbán refers to the fact that the past months have presented serious challenges to the Hungarian economic society and the Hungarian people as a whole.

We have to deal with the biggest drought in recent years, while the war raging in our neighborhood is also making our lives difficult, as a result of which "prices have skyrocketed, the Prime Minister wrote, adding: our history has already provided countless examples of how the strength of the Hungarian countryside shows itself precisely when the best when trouble hits the country".

The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation that the farmers, just as they did in 1956, are doing everything they can to ensure that bread is put on the table of Hungarian families.

"The symbol of this is the Bread of the Hungarians - 15 million grains of wheat program, which has been collecting donations from Hungarian farmers from the entire Carpathian basin for more than a decade, and thanks to which nearly a hundred thousand disadvantaged Hungarian children and families receive bread every year," wrote Viktor Orbán, who at the same time, he thanked the Association of Hungarian Farmers' Unions and Farmers' Cooperatives (MAGOSZ), the Hungarian Bread Foundation and the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) for organizing the famous event again this year.

Sándor Farkas, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture , said that in the month of new bread, the gathering of wheat is also a holiday for families.

Presenting the latest data , he indicated that 850,000 hectares are already affected by drought in the country, according to forecasts, the average yield of winter wheat this year will not reach four tons per hectare, but the average yield of winter barley, rye, or triticale will also be lower than in previous years. .

Sándor Farkas explained that in view of the extraordinary situation, the government considered it important to take immediate action in order to mitigate the losses of the Hungarian economic community, in order to "help with tailor-made measures". He mentioned that, on the initiative of the drought emergency operative group, quick measures were taken in the already announced five points, among other things, regarding the loan moratorium for farmers, a three-billion-euro fund is provided to livestock keepers for feed delivery, additional support is given for irrigation, and the assessment of drought damage at insurance companies will also be shorter.

"Today, the Hungarian farmer is carrying a lot of heavy burdens, the carrying of which requires strength and steadfastness across the border," said the state secretary, who called the attention of those present to maintain and renew unity.

István Jakab, the vice-president of the Parliament and the president of Magosz, said that 12 years ago, with the Bread of Hungarians program, they believed in the spiritual unification of the country torn apart by Trianon.

The 15 million grains of wheat program is more than collecting donations: it strengthens the bond, which is the basis of national unity, he emphasized.

At the ceremony, the representatives of domestic and foreign farmers poured the grains of wheat they had brought in small sacks into a large vat, and then placed the essential ingredients for bread-making on top: sourdough from the Highlands, salt from Parajd, and water from Subcarpathia. All this was blessed by the representatives of the historical churches.
