The first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Croatian import terminal to Hungary has arrived, thus adding a new transportation method and route to the domestic gas supply chain, which currently primarily serves transportation purposes; the way to industrial use may soon open - ARELGAS Kft. told MTI.

the LNG FSRU ( Liquefied Natural Gas Floating Storage Regasifier Unit) bound to the island of Krk and regasification unit) gas can arrive in Hungary from the facility not only by pipeline, but also by a transport vehicle often called a "virtual pipeline"

The primary task of the Krk terminal, which was put into operation in January 2021, is to receive, store and, after regasification, liquefied natural gas transported by tankers, to the interior of the continent, including to Hungary.

It was announced: this spring, additional activities could also start in the terminal, it is now possible to fill road tanker vehicles. With this, in addition to natural gas, liquefied gas can also be transported from Krk to Hungary.

The LNG transport vehicle of ARELGAS Kft. was prepared following the highly complex technical and safety regulations of the terminal after testing and putting it into service.

The arrival of the first Hungarian vehicle from the Krk terminal and its transfer to the gas storage tank is a milestone in terms of security of supply, diversification of transport routes and, of course, the possibility of cost reduction. In order to supply industrial consumers, the shortening of the delivery route and thus the more precise scheduling of delivery is an important result of the process that has just started." - says the company's announcement.
