On August 13, nearly 20,000 people set off on the 1Úto International Pilgrim Day. The main patron of the event, which has been organized by the Mária Út Association for many years, is the President of the Republic, Katalin Novák, who in her message drew attention to the impact of the war on the lives of many.
"Many people are on the road today. Mothers who save their children from the bombs, while they are forced to leave their husbands and sons behind. Children who have packed their lives they thought were safe in a backpack and are heading into the unknown. There are also those on the way who are driven from their homes by the deprivation and hopelessness caused by the war. They don't know where they are going, what awaits them, only that they have to go."
The lady president highlighted the power of Christianity and prayer and assured the participants of her spiritual community.
"You, my dear Pilgrim Brothers, are on your way now so that you know where you are going. They know, believe and confess that we need to get closer to the creator and sustainer God if we want peace, security, love and understanding.
You know that the place of the hand is not on the trigger, but locked in prayer in front of us. We, professing Christians, believe that the Lord will hear our prayers and help the warring parties to make peace.
I pray with you that the families find their way back to their destroyed homes, that the weapons rest, and that the great powers stop inciting war that demands innocent lives, the President of the Republic said.
