Balázs Orbán, the prime minister's political director, wrote about this on his social media page. In his post, he emphasized that Hungary's gas storage capacity is one of the largest in the European Union, and our country is also at the forefront in terms of capacity, according to the research of the Climate Policy Institute .

As he wrote: Many EU countries depend on their neighbors for natural gas supply, as they either do not have storage capacity (like Estonia and Lithuania) or their own production is not sufficient (like Ireland, Luxembourg and Slovenia). Germany is in the most difficult situation, where the amount of natural gas stored covers only 19% of the annual consumption, but if the storages were completely filled, they would not even reach 26%.

On the other hand, the natural gas supply of our country is ensured:

✅ we stored 34% of the total annual consumption,

✅ 141% of winter consumption,

✅and 82% of the annual residential consumption.

gas storage

An outstanding result is that by August 1, 920 million cubic meters more gas than required by the European Union gas storage regulation was put into storage in Hungary. By November 1, Hungary must mandatorily store 35 percent of its 5-year average consumption - 3.65 billion cubic meters.

✅Compared to this, we have already stored 3.25 billion cubic meters of gas by August 1, which is 31.13 percent of the average consumption over the past 5 years, according to MEKH data.

We will do everything in order to preserve the energy security of our country and Hungarian households. For us, the security of Hungary and the protection of Hungarian families are the most important!
