According to the provisions of the European Union gas storage regulation, Hungary must compulsorily store 35 percent of the country's five-year average consumption by November 1; On August 25, there was already more natural gas in domestic gas storage than the EU regulation, the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Office (MEKH) told MTI on Tuesday.
The authority explained: the gas storage regulation of the European Union specifies the quantities of natural gas to be stored for each country in a monthly breakdown from August to November. Based on the schedule defined in the decree, Hungary must compulsorily store 3.65 billion cubic meters by November 1.
According to MEKH data, 3.88 billion cubic meters of natural gas were stored in the five Hungarian gas storage facilities until August 25, which is 226.7 million cubic meters more than the amount prescribed by the Union for November 1.
The amount stored so far is 37.17 percent of the average consumption over the past five years, 98 percent of the annual residential consumption.
Hungary is the fourth best in the European Union in terms of charging in proportion to consumption, they indicated.
Regarding the total capacity, the filling level of the Hungarian storage facilities is 61.31 percent, the energy agency wrote.
