On Sunday in Szabadka, the town day celebrations officially began with the half-marathon called Fussunk together with history, which will last for eight days. The city day itself is held on September 1st, commemorating the fact that on this day in 1779, Mária Terézia elevated Subotica to the rank of free royal city.

More than one and a half thousand people took part in the opening event, the half marathon organized for the fifth time. In addition to the 21 kilometers, a 5- and 10-kilometer race was also organized, but children could also start, of which there were about 700.

There will also be sports events as part of the city day programs. From September 1 to 3, free walking tours are organized between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. for locals and visitors staying in Subotica. The tourist information center will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. during the City Day celebration.

The cultural offer of the City Day events will be very rich.

From Tuesday to Saturday, every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the exhibitions of the City Museum can be viewed. These are: Nature and Man, Historism in Subotica, Three Interwar Posters - traveling exhibition in Belgrade.

On Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., the Hungarian Society of the Folk Theater will stage the performance The Three Sisters.

The Danilo Kiš Foundation organizes various environmental protection programs in Raichle Ferenc Park on Wednesday from 7 p.m., while DJ Nemanja Stojanović entertains the participants.

On Thursday, September 1, the celebration will begin with the traditional flag raising, with the performance of the brass band, and then the city council will hold its ceremonial meeting. Zorica Brunclik will perform on the main square from 9 p.m. in the rich music program . On Friday, the Hungarian Heritage Award-winning, world-famous and unique 100-member Gypsy Orchestra will perform, and on Sunday, the Subotica Symphony Orchestra will perform from 9:00 p.m. Their soloist will be our most famous violinist, Stefan Milenković , the conductor will be Mikica Jevtić , and the new concertmaster will be Viktória Kurina. In case of bad weather, the concerts are held in the Sports Hall.

On Friday, September 2, at 10 a.m., as part of the City Day celebration series, a traditional event is also included in the plan, the visit of the mayor and the president of the city representative body to the maternity hospital in Szatka, where they will present gifts to babies born on City Day and their mothers.

This year, slightly more than 6.4 million dinars were allocated to celebrate the city's day. The working group of the City Day celebration asks everyone who comes to the square not to bring bottles and alcoholic beverages into the area where the audience is.

The cultural institutions are also preparing a rich cultural program, with book presentations, exhibitions, performances, film screenings in the People's Theater, the Children's Theater, the Contemporary Gallery, the Museum, the City Library, the Sándor Lifka Art Cinema, the Danilo Kiš Foundation, and there will be animal feeding in the Zoo, which will be especially attractive to children.
