Residents of the villages along the Serbian-Hungarian border are afraid, they see that Friday night's shooting and the explosion of grenades are no longer a showdown between migrant gangs, but intimidation against the locals. The Serbian police do almost nothing.

After the migrant shooting, grenades now exploded in front of a family home in Hajdújárás. According to the residents of the Vojvodina settlement, the immigrants are no longer fighting each other, but attacking the population. The locals said that the police action was not enough, so they took control.

During the explosion on Friday evening, the shrapnel hit the wall of a family house, several tree branches were torn off and the fence was also damaged.

"On the outskirts of Hajdújárás, which borders Ásotthalom in Hungary, a small group of migrants marched from the direction of the highway towards the forest strip of Lake Tőzeg in Palic, and threw three hand grenades at the family house behind me on Friday evening. The first two of these exploded in quick succession, while the third hand grenade did not explode and was lying at the base of the electric pole visible behind me, not far from the gate of the family house. The special fire brigades from Belgrade did not arrive until the following afternoon. Dressed up, they first took out the unexploded hand grenade, evacuated the surrounding residential buildings within a hundred-meter radius, transported the residents to a safe place, and then, amid serious security measures, the unexploded hand grenade was transported and destroyed outside a residential area," the HírTV correspondent reported from the scene.

According to the neighbors and the affected family, this was no longer a showdown between migrant gangs. The locals are afraid and are convinced that Friday's attack was aimed at the population. They feel that the authorities are not doing enough to deal with the migrant situation.

The people of Hajdújárás took the solution of the problem into their own hands on Saturday and called a village meeting. According to szmsz.press, about one hundred and fifty people showed up on Saturday in Hajdújárás on the street where two hand grenades exploded on Friday. Due to the explosion in front of the family house, the building was also damaged. The shrapnel tore out pieces of wall and tore through an iron barrel.

Among other things, it was said at the village meeting: they are trying to prevent illegal immigrants and the taxi drivers who transport them from entering the surrounding forests.

Neither the representative of the city administration nor the police showed up at the scene. According to the residents' report, there was an inspector in civilian clothes who carried out the site investigation, but he refused to answer questions, even though those who showed up had questions.

The shooting of migrants has become commonplace around Subotica as well. Their places are dreaded.

"Of course, there is continuous shooting, not only in Makkhetes, but now also in the surrounding area, in fact, as we go towards the border, things are constantly happening here," explained a local woman.

According to their locales, the biggest problem is that there are not enough policemen in the settlements along the border.
