Finance Minister Mihály Varga indicated in a short Facebook post that the 5% VAT applied to construction may remain if the proposal is accepted by the Parliament.
"The government has extended the 5% housing VAT until December 31, 2024. This leaves the people with HUF 200 billion every year.
The National Professional Association of Construction Contractors (ÉVOSZ) initiated the preferential VAT rate to be applied until December 31, 2028, if the building permit became final by the end of 2024, or in the case of a simple notification, the construction was notified by that date.
The request has been examined and supported by the Ministry of Finance. The proposal can be discussed by the Parliament in the fall."
