In the interim local government elections held this year in the capital, the representatives of the ruling party fought against the candidates of the left, seven out of eight elections were won by Fidesz-KDNP politicians. Citizens will vote in two districts in Újbuda on Sunday, and István Simicskó, parliamentary faction leader of the KDNP and president of the district's Fidesz, told Magyar Hírlap that he is confident that they will continue the series.
The stakes for Sunday's election are also high for us, since in case of success we will be able to represent the interests of the district residents more effectively. Simicskó said in an interview with Magyar Hírlap. In the 2019 local government elections, we did not do well in Budapest. At the same time, voters are already feeling the consequences of the left's failed capital and district governance.
It is a regrettable fact that in 2019, after nine years of Fidesz-KDNP city management, we lost the district. On September 18, there will be by-elections in two municipal districts. Voters can now once again give an opportunity to conscientious representatives who want to work for the citizens of the district, who can represent their interests with greater weight in the work of the representative body. I think we are running two good candidates. István Jankó, who was a municipal representative in an individual district for twenty-one years, is running in Lágymánios. He is extremely experienced and has a thorough knowledge of district affairs, so if he is elected, the people of Lágymány would finally have a reliable representative. The other election covers a smaller part of Sasad, Sashegy, Gazdagrét, where Tamás Elekes is our candidate, who is an excellent professional, and there is no doubt about his dedication to the citizens of Újbuda. We have an experienced and a young, enthusiastic candidate, but they are similar in that they both have a high work ethic and want to do a lot for their district.
We received a lot of positive feedback and confirmation, so I am confident that we will be able to continue the beautiful success story we have achieved so far in the municipal elections in Budapest, whether we are thinking of District I, Budafok or Óbuda.
MH: In the last three years, since it has had a left-wing mayor in the person of Imre László, how much has Újbuda developed?
Respect for the elderly has always been important to me, which is why I have enough respect for Mayor Imre László, but I see that he experiences his election as city manager as a kind of reward, as the crowning of his honorable career, as he was previously a Member of Parliament, a successful doctor, hospital director, sports manager volt. On the other hand, his activity of the past three years is exhausted by the fact that he is happy with his election victory in 2019. The citizens of the district can expect some kind of activity from an elected mayor, but they are constantly faced with the lack of this. This was reflected when along the main roads and in many places the weeds were waist-deep, and instead of mowing, they put up a sign saying that those areas are bee pastures. The activities of the current left-wing city administration are essentially limited to these, i.e. we come across various apparent solutions and alternative measures. In this particularly difficult and critical period due to the Russian-Ukrainian war, when war is raging in our neighborhood, when there is an energy crisis all over Europe, when Hungary is also in a difficult situation due to the failed Brussels sanctions policy, the Hungarian government is constantly working to make it easier for people burdens, then they do the exact opposite, they put more burdens on people. They invented that the municipality will raise the parking fee for local citizens from HUF 2,000 to HUF 12,000, and for the second car they will have to pay HUF 24,000.
MH: Do you feel that the development of the previously dynamically developing part of the city has stopped?
I don't see any meaningful investment at all outside of government developments. We started the development of the children's health center even before 2019, we planned it, we looked for funds for it, which is mainly provided by the government, and with a small local government grant, they are now trying to set it up as if it were realized as a result of their activities. Compared to the fact that the local government can operate from a decent budget, which would provide sufficient opportunity for the DK and left-led local government not to apply austerity measures. They would have the resources to look for ways to help people. We don't see this, and I hope that the voters of Újbuda see it too, the ones with which the left won the municipal elections in the district three years ago were just empty promises.
