The agreement on the recovery fund now depends only on the European Commission, after the government accepted the position of the committee on the controversial issues, the minister who heads the Prime Minister's Office said in Kossuth radio's Sunday Newspaper program.

Gergely Gulyás stated that in the reply sent to the committee, the committee's position was accepted in all four areas where the board expected progress. Regardless of whether or not we agree with the European Commission's proposal, the minister said, emphasizing that the importance of these issues is significantly less than the fact that Hungary will finally receive the funds that are due to us according to EU rules.

"After we have accepted the position of the committee on all issues where there have been disputes so far, we believe that the only thing left to do is the technical conclusion of the agreement and then the agreement can be signed," said Gergely Gulyás.

He said that there is professional consultation and political debate in the matter. The latter is caused by the fact that in Hungary the left and its Western European allies do not want an agreement in any way. They don't support it, and they even do it so that Hungarian teachers can't get a salary increase, since EU funds include the source that could be used for teacher salaries. Furthermore, the health care wage increase is also covered in the recovery fund's budget, he added.

Gergely Gulyás noted that this is considered irresponsible behavior and they ask that

"those left-wing members of the European Parliament who earn five million forints a month should not work to prevent teachers and doctors from earning more in Hungary".

In response to a question about the fluctuation of the forint exchange rate, the minister said: "there is a hectic, difficult world economic situation, which arose because of the war in Ukraine, and as a consequence of the war, it was strengthened by the sharp European reactions to it."

Since the economic situation in the world is significantly more difficult than at any time in recent decades, "inflation is reaching levels not seen in the past three or four decades both in the United States and in Europe, this will also test the Hungarian forint", he said, then added : the euro has not been as weak against the dollar in the last twenty years as it is now.

Gergely Gulyás said: there is a world economic process behind this, which is based on the fact that the existence of raw materials and energy carriers has become uncertain, and therefore the functioning of the economy as a whole.

The government did everything to normalize the situation as much as possible. The budget is stable and balanced, the deficit is decreasing, the Hungarian real economy is in good shape, our growth this year will be around 5 percent, it could even be higher, he pointed out.

Speaking about the establishment of border hunting units, Gergely Gulyás said that recruitment will start this month.

The current situation cannot tolerate postponement: we must prepare for even greater migration pressure than experienced in 2015, as the lack of Ukrainian grain exports causes the greatest trouble precisely in those countries from which illegal immigrants can leave for Europe, the minister emphasized.
