As part of the preparations for the 2025 Holy Year, the Dicastery for Evangelization, which is responsible for coordinating Vatican initiatives related to the Holy Year, is announcing an open tender for the composition of the jubilee hymn. Those interested are invited to set to music the text proposed by the section on fundamental issues related to the evangelization of the world, which expresses the essence of the jubilee event. The hymn has a liturgical purpose and should be suitable to be sung by the congregation and the schola cantorum.

Conditions

The Dicastery of Evangelization stipulates certain entry conditions in the application for the New Year's hymn. The composition must be an original and previously unpublished work of the author and must contain the elements necessary for the schola cantorum part, the 4-part singing of the chorus and stanzas. Entrants must also submit the vocal and organ scores, and the entry must not be the result of a paid commission, and must never have been performed at a concert or public event, or broadcast by the media. Additional conditions for entry are contained in the website prepared for the 2025 hymn competition. Application forms are available www.iubilaeum2025.va/en/inno.html from January 16, 2023 (Italian time) until March 25, 2023 at 8 p.m. After this date and after the selection process is completed, only the winner of the application will be contacted.

Holy year

The Catholic Church celebrates the Holy Year every 25 years. This is the time to boost the church and the daily life of every Christian. Each jubilee year has a theme. Pope Francis chose the theme "Pilgrims of Hope" for the Holy Year 2025. A holy year is called "ordinary" if it is observed after the usual 25-year period, and "extraordinary" if it is declared due to some outstanding event. The holy year of 2025 will be held after the 25-year period.
