In the current global environment, dialogue is the path to renewal and development, broad cooperation is the "secret recipe" for sustainable economic growth - said György Matolcsy, President of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, at the Budapest Eurássia Forum 2022 event .

In his speech at the opening of the conference, he noted: for the sake of sustainability, the green transition and the digital transition must be accelerated, and the emphasis must be placed on "the fusion of knowledge, talent and technology".

The future of the world economy depends on whether humanity is able to learn from the mistakes of the past and whether it is able to make use of scientific results, the central bank president opined. Physics and biology provide valuable lessons about complex systems, economists must also acquire this knowledge, "the rules and patterns of complex systems" must be widely explained, he added, pointing out that there is a lot to lose if this is not done. the profession is open.

György Matolcsy also spoke about the fact that since 2020 the world is facing significant difficulties, after the seven-year period of recovery, a cycle has begun that recalls the events of the 1970s and 1940s. The peculiarity of the cycle is not only higher inflation and slower growth, but also wars and disasters are "imminent", he added.

In-depth knowledge of the operation of complex systems can help in dealing with the above problems, he confirmed. The good news is that the same certain "rules and patterns" tend to repeat themselves, there is always the possibility of reforming the system, the extreme situations typical of the 1970s and 1940s can be avoided, and the conditions for sustainable growth can be created, he concluded. György Matolcsy at the Budapest event.

János Csák, the minister responsible for culture and innovation, spoke at the same forum about the complex way of thinking behind the Hungarian government's measures, which takes into account people's basic needs, such as the need for belonging, care and security. All this explains why the government does what it does.

He stated that competition and cooperation between different parts of the world will be decided according to who is able to perform in addressing the deepest human needs.

The feeling of belonging somewhere is one of the deepest human needs, it is present, for example, through the feeling of patriotism, even in individualistic societies like the American one, he explained.

He pointed out: "The government's task is to create the conditions for people to take care of themselves, their loved ones and their communities. A good society is not one where the government offers ready-made solutions, but one where individuals are able to prosper based on their own resources and luck," he added.

The minister noted that the society in Hungary highly values peace and security, since two wars have been fought in the country's neighborhood in the past 30 years.

After the whys and the hows, János Csák said that the government treats the issue of social reproduction, technological sustainability and the transfer of experience to the next generations as priority areas.
