More than half a million households have already filled out the census questionnaire online, which started on October 1, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) told MTI on Tuesday.

According to their information, more than 1.3 million personal questionnaires from 570,000 addresses were received in the system by Monday evening. About five million addresses were affected in the census, that is, responses were received from more than 11 percent of the addresses in just three days.

Questionnaires have already been sent to almost all settlements in Hungary, the proportion of affected settlements reaches 99 percent, they wrote.

The questionnaires can be filled out independently on the Internet between October 1 and 16 by entering the 12-digit access code received in the mail, via the website belepes.nepszamlalas2022.hu, the office reminded.

They added: filling out the questionnaire online is the easiest, fastest and most convenient way to answer.

Those who fill out the questionnaire online can take part in a prize draw, KSH will draw five purchase vouchers worth HUF 100,000 each per day, they explained.

From October 17, enumerators will visit those households that do not use the option of filling in online.

The KSH conducts a census between October 1 and November 28, in which participation is mandatory by law.

The purpose of the census is to provide an accurate and detailed picture of the size, demographic characteristics, health status, employment, living and housing conditions of Hungary's population.

They wrote that the data provide a reliable basis for the preparation of the most important economic, social and territorial development decisions affecting the country, the settlements and the living environment.

"The data collected during the census can only be used for statistical purposes. They are published by the KSH in aggregated form, they cannot be linked to the persons of the respondents in any way," the announcement states.
