The LMP wants to start a green consultation, saying that the national consultation on the Brussels sanctions announced by the government is considered a wrong step. It is not unprecedented on the left to try to copy the cabinet, previously Jobbik, Momentum and Párbeszéd also launched their own consultations, but all initiatives were a huge failure. "As soon as the national consultation on the Brussels sanctions started, Gyurcsány and his factions attacked it," wrote the major government party in its statement yesterday. According to Fidesz, the left is doing this because it supports energy sanctions and is not interested in the opinion of the Hungarian people. However

the consultation itself is also used with preference by the left, albeit with less than more success.

Right now, the LMP is launching a green consultation, in which they say they are asking people real questions and trying to reflect on real problems. The party, which considers itself green, has already attacked the social dialogue announced by the cabinet and about Brussels' energy sanctions. Known: on September 22, after the Fidesz-KDNP faction meeting, Máté Kocsis, faction leader of the larger ruling party, announced that they would initiate a national consultation on energy sanctions. At that time, the LMP responded to the news of the announcement in a statement, in which the consultation was called a wrong step.

The idea of the LMP is not unprecedented, as the left has been fond of trying to hold its own consultations in order to take over the shaping of the political agenda. Last summer, Mayor Gergely Karácsony and Krisztina Baranyi, the left-wing mayor of Ferencváros, announced a consultation against the construction of one of the world's most prestigious universities, Fudan's planned campus in Budapest.

However, the consultation in the capital was an ugly failure, only 30,000 people filled out the questionnaire.

Previously, Jobbik also tried to plagiarize the idea of a national consultation when they launched their initiative called "Real National Consultation" in 2016. Just like the Karácsony's 2021 Fudan consultation, this too was drowned in lack of interest. Gábor Vona, the president of the party at the time, stated that there was a significant demand for the initiative, but its campaign went almost unnoticed, the results were not reported for months, and barely two hundred thousand people participated in their consultation.

Párbeszéd, which regularly has minimal support in public opinion polls, but still has a stable parliamentary presence thanks to the left-wing background deals, launched its own campaign in 2018 under the name Real National Consultation, which was evaluated as a great success, but it is not known how many people participated in the consultation. since no participation data were provided. Momentum did not want to be left behind in the line of left-wing consultations either, as in 2020, in response to the government's questionnaire on the treatment of the coronavirus epidemic, it announced its own consultation, which, like Jobbik, was called a real consultation.

Momentum's action, like other left-wing initiatives, has completely died, and no data can be found on the party's public interfaces about the results or how many people filled out the online page or the paper-based form.

It should be noted that in contrast to all this, the national consultations launched by the government are usually returned by more than one million people, which gives the cabinet strong authority in crisis situations.

"The pro-sanctions left is not interested in people's opinions," said Fidesz in its statement yesterday, in response to the Democratic Coalition calling the consultation propaganda. As the larger government party reminded, as soon as the national consultation on Brussels sanctions began, Gyurcsány and his factions already attacked it. "They are doing this because the left is on the side of energy sanctions and they are not interested in the opinion of the Hungarian people," the announcement stated.

Fidesz indicated: The Gyurcsánys made it clear several times that they would have turned off the gas and oil tap a long time ago, which would not only not have reduced utility bills, but would also have jeopardized the country's energy supply.

"The aim of the consultation is to be able to represent our position with sufficient force and to ensure that the Brussels elite does not introduce new energy sanctions, but rather reviews the sanctions that caused the crisis. That's why we ask everyone to fill out the consultation!" - was recorded. At the same time, this is not the first time that the Gyurcsány party has attacked the current national consultation, as they think it makes no sense to ask people about the sanctions. Furthermore, according to the Gyurcsány party, it is not the war but the government that is responsible for the livelihood crisis, and the consultation was called a lie. It should be noted that the economic difficulties caused by the energy crisis, which is also worsening due to sanctions, are a big problem throughout Europe.

According to Momentum, which has unconditionally supported the Brussels sanctions until now, it is a lie that the measures are the cause of the existing crisis, and the party once again believed that the sanctions work. Besides

Momentum pointed out that the consultation forms will be collected nationwide and distributed to those in need as an incendiary.

According to them, this is the way to get the most out of the national consultation, which they called a liar and a demagogue. András Fekete-Győr, the fallen ex-chairman of Momentum, spoke about how the sanctions were meant to force peace. It is worth recalling that earlier Gergely Karácsony stated that he was happy with the sanctions and that the Hungarian government could not prevent their acceptance. In addition, Péter Jakab, the former president of Jobbik, announced: "If Fidesz's national consultation comes, fire with it!" Ákos Hadházy, a representative who won a parliamentary mandate with the support of the left, called the national consultation the dirtiest propaganda campaign to date.
