Freedom is the greatest thing, which can never be obscured by the passing of time, nor can the example and memory of those who gave their lives for it fade away - declared Zsolt Láng, the president of the capital's Fidesz, a member of parliament on Saturday, the anniversary of the 1956 revolution and freedom struggle at a commemoration in Budapest organized on the occasion of

At the joint commemoration of Fidesz and Fidelitas in Budapest, held during Corvin, the politician from the ruling party spoke about the fact that Corvin reminds us of the insurgent group of the guys from Pest, the approximately four thousand people who took up arms there in 1956 and fought a hopeless fight against the many times superior force. They had no chance, the fight was unequal and they also knew that their lives were at stake, yet they fought bravely and shot 40-50 Russian tanks in the area, he said.

In front of the gathered commemorators, Zsolt Láng declared: the strength of the insurgents was multiplied by the desire for freedom. However, heroic resistance did not bring them freedom, but death, slavery and stigmatization. More than four hundred Józsefváros insurgents lost their lives, and during the months of the Kádár retaliation, VIII. about 150 freedom fighters from the district were sentenced, 23 people were sentenced to death - he reminded, and then he said: "these lost lives make this place holy, just like Széna Square in Buda."

The politician said that the regime change of 1989 was "a time of miracles, an age of a negotiated revolution in which the truth of 1956 finally prevailed": the occupiers left Hungary, the Warsaw Pact ended and the freely elected Parliament was established.

At the same time, we had to experience that the possibility of peaceful development is only a temporary state of grace, today we live again in the era of great power politics

added Zsolt Láng.

He declared: a bloody war broke out in our East, which could and should have been avoided with good will and negotiations. This is an armed struggle, the price of which will be paid by Europe in addition to the tragedy of the Ukrainian people.

A geostrategic game is taking place with immeasurable sacrifices and economic damage, which could only be ended by an agreement. That is why all sane Europeans, as well as the Hungarian government, are consistently on the side of peace, he said, adding: "on the side of peace, on the side of normality, not on the side of arms shipments, misguided sanctions that make our everyday life difficult, and billionaire speculators ".

Zsolt Láng emphasized that peace requires strength and unity. This is why the government is developing the national defense, strengthening border protection and therefore "representing our interests unflinchingly in Brussels", he pointed out.

According to the politician, it would be expected that they could also count on their political opponents in this action.

However, there is no unity and there is no national minimum: "the dollar left - whose driving force is still today the successor of the communists who crushed the '56 revolution and called in the Soviet tanks, a narcissistic party leader who can use the violence of state power against the population from Apró-villa at any time - is still is colluding against the democratically elected Hungarian government and the everyday security and national interest of the people at home, in Brussels and in Washington"

- said Zsolt Láng.

Illés Boglárka, the president of Fidelitas and a Fidesz member of parliament, spoke about how the boys and girls of Pest sacrificed their lives for the freedom and sovereignty of our country. They remind us that if we do not stand up for our country, for our country's independence and sovereignty, then a bigger and stronger empire can force us to the ground. But not only our country, but all of Europe, he said.

He stated: even now, in the 21st century, we still feel the pressure, "only today we are fighting the battle in Brussels".

"We are Europeans, members of Europe (...), but even more so we are Hungarians", who have learned that we must protect the independence and freedom of our country under all circumstances

said Illés Boglárka.

Renge Zsolt, the president of Fidelitas in Budapest, said about what happened 66 years ago that "a miracle happened" in Hungary: a solidarity movement turned into a revolution in the space of a day and the nation was forged into an unprecedented unity.

"The testimony of 1956 for me is that the truth remains the truth even if it cannot be fulfilled there and then"

- he said, adding: the lesson is that we can only rely on ourselves.

At the end of the commemoration, wreaths were placed at the statue commemorating the guys from Pest.
