Today, the question is whether the MSZP will exist at all - among other things, the party's new co-chairman talked about this in a radio program. This is a strange turn of events in light of the fact that before his election, Imre Komjáthi said: there is no question of burying socialists.

The recently elected co-chairman of the party re-evaluated the situation and vision of the MSZP within a short period of time, according to the Spirit FM program. Here, Imre Komjáthi recalled that when former president Bertalan Tóth asked him to run for the position of co-president, he told him: for the MSZP, the question is no longer whether it will ever become a 30 percent people's party, but whether it will exist at all.

Although the public opinion polls fully justify the suggestion, it is worth recalling that before the election, Komjáthi campaigned with the same statement he gave to Népszava: he does not agree with the analysts who are burying the MSZP. "Of course, I know that many people really want to see the finale, but that's out of the question, since we have three hundred local grassroots organizations, forty mayors and around three hundred local government representatives," he said.

In the radio program, Komjáthi also spoke about how, in his opinion, the MSZP, as a social democratic party, should criticize not only the current government, but also the capitalist system and its protagonists, including the banks that caused the 2008 crisis.

"We must say that we have indeed broken with neoliberal economic policy, and that the crisis should not be dealt with by austerity, but by taxing the beneficiaries of the crisis"

he added.

When asked by the presenter why he thinks the attempts of the former leaders of the MSZP failed when they wanted to return to left-wing politics, Imre Komjáthi said: his predecessors still considered the socialist party a people's party, and that is why employers and employees did not dare to choose the (neo ) between liberal and left-wing politics. The politician also talked about how

in his opinion, the MSZP had an extremely good program in the 2022 campaign, but it was undermined by the Péter Márki-Zays, and therefore they disappeared in the six-party alliance.

Komjáthi also touched on the fact that he does not agree with Ferenc Gyurcsány's previous statements that on April 3, it was not the opposition but Péter Márki-Zay who suffered a historic defeat. The MSZP co-chairman emphasized that

they put all their efforts into the campaign, but he did not see the same determination among DK activists.

- The death throes of the MSZP are taking place before our eyes, the probability of the party's significant strengthening even with the new co-presidents is negligible, which is grist to Ferenc Gyurcsány's mill - János Zila recently evaluated the reform of the socialists. According to the analyst of the Center for Fundamental Rights, the MSZP would not be able to reach the European Parliament on their own, nor would they be able to obtain significant positions in the municipalities, so they are forced to cooperate with the president of the DK.
