According to the government's decision, pensions will increase for the third time this November. Despite the economic crisis caused by sanctions, Hungarian growth is resilient, so the elderly can count on a pension premium. After the 5 percent increase in January, pensions for the elderly will increase by 3.9 percent in July and by 4.5 percent in November, i.e. in 2022, a pension increase of around 13.4 percent will be implemented, which also applies to the 13th month pension that was brought back this year.

In 2022, the elderly received a lot of help. The government brought back the 13th monthly pension, which was taken away by the left-wing governments, and now this year it is implementing a pension increase for the third time, and the elderly are even receiving a pension premium.

At the beginning of October, the decree was published in the Magyar Közlöny, according to which the amount of pension benefits must be increased by 4.5 percent ex officio from the first of November, with retroactive effect from January 1, 2022.

Together with the 5 percent increase in January and the 3.9 percent increase in July, this means that

In 2022, the rate of Hungarian pensions will increase by a total of 13.4 percent, which also applies to the newly received 13th month pension.

Orbán: It is our honor to take care of the elderly

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced the pension increase on the World Day of the Elderly. In a video uploaded to his social media page, he stated: "The whole of Europe is going through difficult times, but even then we must not lose sight of our most important national goals, one of which is the respect of pensioners in Hungary."

He emphasized: "We managed to return the 13th monthly pension, which was taken from the elderly by the left-wing governments, thanks to the economic achievements of the past years."

Viktor Orbán considers this a serious achievement and a matter of honor, and

as this year, "every pensioner will receive the 13th month's pension next year as well".

The prime minister explained: "Difficult times, crisis here or there, Hungary will give our pensioners what they deserve."

How much is that much?

The 13.4 percent annual increase means that those who received a pension of HUF 150,000 last December will have a pension of HUF 170,100 from November. This is more than HUF 6,400 more than the increase in June, which is retroactively (including the 13th monthly pension) received in a lump sum by the person entitled to it, i.e. the postman, in addition to the increased pension of HUF 170,000

in November, it will bring a pension supplement of more than HUF 64,000 to the elderly.

The sanctions did not spare the pension premium either

Although the economic crisis situation caused by sanctions also negatively affects the rate of economic growth,

since 2017, the government has paid pension premiums for the fifth time. The fact that even in such a situation it does not sink into recession, but can grow, shows the striking power of the Hungarian economy, and the elderly also benefit from this.

This year's forecasted economic growth of 4 percent falls short of the performance of recent years, but all this was achieved in the midst of a sanctions crisis.

Since Hungarian growth is lower due to the economic crisis caused by sanctions, this is also reflected in the amount of the pension premium, but even so, it is an item of approximately 25 billion forints, i.e. the amount of the pension premium can be no more than 10 thousand forints.

The increased pension will be transferred by the treasury on November 12, as before. If you receive the money by post, the postman will take it out on the usual calendar day.
