According to exit polls, the right-wing religious bloc led by Benjamin Netanyahu won the parliamentary elections in Israel for the fifth time in 3.5 years. In his victory speech on Wednesday morning, Netanyahu promised a national government that would take care of all of Israel's citizens, local media reported.

" If the results of the exit polls reflect the actual election results, I will establish a national government that cares for all citizens of Israel. We will have a balanced and responsible policy, we will bring back security, curb the expensiveness, expand the circle of peace even more, and improve Israel's position among the peoples. We care about reducing tempers in the public discourse, about bringing back inner peace, " Netanyahu said in his 3 a.m. speech.

" We are on the verge of a huge victory. The people want to get back the national pride that was taken from us, they want a Jewish state, a stable, experienced government. The prime minister must take care of the soldiers first and foremost, act responsibly, not sacrifice lives unnecessarily, we don't want to get involved in unnecessary adventures, " he added.

When about half of the votes are processed, three smaller parties are also threatened with elimination, because they did not reach the 3.25 percent threshold to enter parliament. As of Wednesday morning, the left-liberal Merec party stands at 3.17 percent, the Arab party Balaad at 2.75 percent, and the Arab party Raam at 2.47 percent.

The election participation rate was high, 71.3 percent.

The exit polls promised a clear victory for Netanyahu with 62 seats, but it may take several days before the real, final results are made public, as after the results of Tuesday's voting have been compiled, the votes of those who voted abroad on official assignment and of the soldiers will be counted.
