The government is continuing its economic rescue program while trying to protect families and vulnerable social groups from the crisis, political scientist Ervin Nagy assessed the week's events in a statement to our newspaper, who sees that there is still a lot of confusion on the left, the strongest force, the DK, is unable appear as a real alternative. Magyar Hírlap points out in its weekly review
It was revealed this week that there will be a pension premium again this November, but Ervin Nagy is convinced that the range of officially price-regulated products will also expand.
"In the next week, we will probably see whether the European Commission will keep its word, i.e. it will not place more and more obstacles in front of the payment of the EU funds due to our country, because we cannot be calm at all given the example of Poland," stated the political scientist .
"In any case, the Hungarian government and the right-wing factions continue to work under the sign of trust, and despite the opposition's nagging, the commitments have been fulfilled so far by the deadline. An important milestone in this process was that Katalin Novák - on the recommendation of the President of the State Audit Office - appointed the heads of the Integrity Authority this week, which will start operating on November 19."
According to Ervin Nagy, there is still a lot of confusion on the left, only the Democratic Coalition is trying to show the ability to act with the shadow government, whose members regularly express themselves on policy issues. For the time being, there is no consistency in what the press conferences held day after day say, so their work seems more like a random brainstorming session than a real political achievement. The establishment of the shadow government has so far brought only moderate success to Ferencsány Gyurcsány, as it was enough to reorganize the balance of power on the left, so that the Democratic Coalition is slightly stronger at the expense of the other left-wing parties, but it is still far from being able to appeal to new voter groups as a real alternative. .
"Ákos Hadházy's campaign was a total failure, as only a few hundred people took part in the demonstration held at the MTVA headquarters, and in addition, there was such an unbridled atmosphere that a well-meaning person - regardless of his political affiliation - prefers to stay away.
Many left-wing politicians appeared again at the demonstration announced after a week of wild camping, which indicates that they still do not distance themselves from extremist means. We can't talk about an isolated case at all, because we saw similar scenes that crossed the line of good taste at the recent teachers' demonstrations, which today are actually not about the teachers, but have turned into anti-government movements," said Ervin Nagy.
The political scientist also spoke about the fact that the opposition demonstrations are becoming more and more extreme, but as a result, fewer and fewer people participate in them. All in all, it can be said that, despite the fact that the left tried in vain to take political advantage of one or another discontent movement during the past months, they were unable to make a single step forward, i.e. they were unable to lure back the sympathizers who turned away en masse after the elections. The extreme tone is rather alarming.
The biggest problem of the left is still the lack of credibility and historical fragmentation, i.e. never before have so many left-wing parties competed for the trust of the voters.
In addition, Péter Márki-Zay's movement will continue to shred the opposition side, which instead of renewal will become more and more fragmented. In any case, the national movement of the mayor of Hódmezővásárhely currently has no chance of real growth, there is no need for it, and Péter Márki-Zay does not have enough political capital to give a new party momentum, the analyst concluded.
"A two-party competition is clearly emerging on the left, in which the Democratic Coalition and Momentum are fighting for the dominant role, while all the other small parties are fighting for survival," stated Ervin Nagy.
