The Hungarian Women's Union, the Kopp Mária Institute for Population and Families (KINCS) and the Lajos Batthyány Foundation are organizing a remarkable program for Vilma Hugonnai, who died 100 years ago - the first Hungarian doctor - and for the Doctor of Medicine of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, who passed away a decade ago. in memory of his candidate, Mária Kopp.

We know undeservedly little about Dr. Vilma Hugonnai (1847-1922), even though her spirit, purposeful activity, and responsibility for women are an example to be followed even in today's challenges. Its eternal message in our rapidly changing world: with a courageous role, reaching back to our values, we can offer forward-looking, effective solutions for both our own age and the future generation. His life path is well summed up by his personal motto: "My sword is science, my shield is work".

Prof. Dr. Mária Kopp (1942-2012) graduated from the Semmelweis University of Medical Sciences, then from the ELTE Department of Clinical Psychology. Later, he became a candidate of medicine and a doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He was the founding director of Semmelweis University's Institute of Behavioral Sciences, and later worked as a university professor and research group leader at his alma mater. His large-scale life work was recognized with numerous awards, the most important of which are: the center cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit with a star, the Gyula Nyírő Award of the Hungarian Psychiatric Association, with which he was awarded twice, the Szent-Györgyi Albert Award, the Civil Hungary Award, the Prima Award, the Hungarian Heritage prize, Stephanus prize, and was elected honorary citizen of Budapest. The focus of his biography was research into the psychosocial, social, economic and demographic background factors of diseases of the greatest public health importance, the situation of families, the roles of women and men, demographic and social processes, and the correlations between the mental and physical health of Hungarians. Mária Kopp was the initiator of the Population Roundtable and the initiator of the Three Kings, Three Queens Movement, and the namesake of the Mária Kopp Institute for Population and Families (KINCS). About 180 scientific publications are linked to his name.
