Two weeks before the start of the World Cup in Qatar, one of the event's ambassadors stated in an interview with the German ZDF that homosexuality is "brain damage", reports the New York Post.

In an interview recorded in Doha, former international soccer player Khalid Sakman According to him, visitors to the country should respect the laws and rules of the locals. Among other things, it also says that homosexuality is forbidden.

"Homosexuality is haram (forbidden)," he declared. When asked why it was forbidden, he replied: “I'm not a very religious person, but why is it forbidden? Because it's brain damage."

Then, after the statement, the interview was abruptly cut short. Reuters contacted FIFA and the organizers of the World Cup in Qatar to find out what they think about the incident. The organizers repeated what they had said before, that everyone is welcome at the event.

Homosexuality is illegal in the conservative Muslim country. Some footballers have expressed concern that LGBTQ+ fans will not be safe during their stay. Qatar is the first country in the Middle East to host the FIFA World Cup, but even before the start of the tournament, there was a lot of pressure on them because of the strict social rules.
