Russia has no preconditions for settlement negotiations with Ukraine, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko told reporters in Moscow on Tuesday.

There are no preconditions on our part, except for the main condition that Ukraine shows good intentions, said the diplomat in response to a question. According to Rudenko, Russia has always indicated that it is ready to conduct such negotiations, but Ukraine has adopted a law that prohibits itself from peace negotiations as long as Vladimir Putin remains the Russian president.

He said that, contrary to reports from The Wall Street Journal, Russia is not conducting secret talks on Ukraine with the United States. He announced that negotiations are continuing regarding the protection zone to be established around the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, and that the competent Russian authorities are studying the proposals of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Now what? Every week we read more news that the Russians are willing to negotiate if...Ukraine sits at the negotiating table if...Now there are no conditions, have the "ifs" disappeared? This latest news also proves that the information from both sides has little credibility, to say the least.

One thing we can be sure of is that, unfortunately, fighting is still going on in Ukraine.
