Defending the homeland is a national matter, the duty of every Hungarian citizen, said the faction leader of the Christian Democratic People's Party (KDNP) and the president of the National Defense Sports Association in Győr on Friday.
István Simicskó added at the Győr stop of the League of Braves launched by the National Defense Sports Association In order to develop national defense education, it is necessary to organize such competitions and start cadet training, even in the school system, he said.
According to István Simicskó, the struggles of the competition for elementary school students also educate for life, since the participants develop not only in willpower, but also physically. The tasks also help young people to find mental and physical balance as soon as possible. He emphasized that life is a continuous struggle, and the competition teaches to endure successes and failures, help each other, camaraderie and teamwork. In addition to all this, by acquiring knowledge of national defense, young people can get interested in a military career, he said.
The politician recalled that the cadet training was established when he was the Minister of National Defense, the National Defense Sports Association was founded and the reserve system was launched, which already has more than 12,000 reserve soldiers. In addition to all of this, the national defense force development program has also been launched, he listed. He emphasized: the work continues, the Hungarian Defense Forces is getting stronger.
The key to the preservation of our national identity and national independence is the Hungarian Defense Forces, he emphasized. István Simicskó also mentioned that since the start of cadet training in 2017, the Hungarian Armed Forces have contracts with 120 schools, in which children receive a kind of preliminary training. Simon Róbert Balázs, the region's Fidesz parliamentary representative, said that ten elementary school teams from Győr participated in the Győr stage of the competition. He emphasized that playing sports is important regardless of age, and that the competition also fulfills a kind of career orientation task.
The League of the Brave is one of the competition series of the National Defense Sports Association, which is aimed at elementary school students. Children can acquire national knowledge during intellectual competitions, and proficiency in national defense sports during active tasks. At the Győr stage of the competition, the team of the Győr Vocational Training Center Móra Ferenc Sports School Primary School and Vocational Gymnasium won the first place. In addition to István Simicskó, Balázs Simon Róbert and Sándor Széles, the chief steward of Győr-Moson-Sopron county, presented the awards.
