He said that the sanctions imposed on Russia due to the attack on Ukraine did not stop the war, but caused and continue to cause extraordinary economic difficulties for Europe.
Hungarians overwhelmingly reject the oil sanctions and the planned gas sanctions, as well as the restrictions on nuclear energy, he explained.

Based on the results, the people completing the consultation say a clear no to sanctions that further increase food prices or place additional burdens on European tourism, he added.

Alexandra Szentkirályi pointed out that in the European Union, the Hungarian government asked the citizens about the sanctions for the first time.

On behalf of the government, Alexandra Szentkirályi thanked the almost 1.4 million people who expressed their opinion during the consultation.

István Hollik: The Hungarian left continues to dance as Brussels whistles.

The national consultation on sanctions proved that the Hungarian left continues to dance as Brussels whistles, the Fidesz communications director stated in a video sent to MTI on Saturday.

"It is clear from the results that the Hungarians do not support the flawed Brussels policy", the overwhelming majority of those who filled in do not ask for sanctions, he pointed out.

At the same time, the result of the national consultation proved something else: "that the Hungarian left continues to dance as Brussels whistles," added the communications director.

"By siding with Brussels and the failed sanctions, the Ferenc Gyurcsánys clearly opposed the Hungarian interest and the opinion of the Hungarian people, which they expressed in the national consultation," he said.

Moreover, they are still unwilling to change their policy: the left would continue to impose sanctions on the Hungarians and even introduce new ones.

"For us, Hungary is first"

- declared István Hollik, adding: they will do everything to enforce the will of the Hungarians. That is why they continue to say no to the failed Brussels sanctions. Everything is being done to keep Hungary away from war, as only peace can be a solution, emphasized the communications director.
