In a statement, US President Joe Biden congratulated the Republicans on winning the majority in the House of Representatives, acknowledging the defeat of the Democrats in last week's midterm congressional elections, and at the same time expressing his willingness to cooperate.
In a statement from the White House on Wednesday evening, the president wrote that last week's election showed the strength and resilience of American democracy.
He told House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy that he was ready to work with House Republicans to get results for American families.
Voters have made it clear that they expect to lower costs, protect their freedom of choice and preserve democracy, Joe Biden wrote, adding that he will work with anyone — Republican or Democrat — who is also willing to work with him to achieve those goals.
