Already in October, the representatives of the European Parliament urged the European Commission not to reach an agreement with Hungary and to freeze the EU funds due to Hungary. The representatives of the European Parliament dealing with the rule of law conditions continued their efforts a month later, on November 17, as they evaluated the government's 17 corrective measures at a press conference. The timing is not accidental, as the deadline for the government to fulfill the conditions expires in two days, after which the European Commission will evaluate their fulfillment, writes the Center for Fundamental Rights on its Facebook page.
the Center for Fundamental Rights, the representatives are unsurprisingly left-wing, anti-Hungarian representatives who are not afraid of destroying EU unity even in times of war, if they have already taken it into their heads that Hungary must be punished. the already well-known Daniel Freund , Moritz Körner , Eider Gardiazabal Rubial and the report's presenter, Petri Sarvamaa , the Commission should maintain its proposal to freeze EU funds, as the Hungarian measures are inadequate and the rule of law is not being treated. The representatives not only tried to put pressure on the Commission, but also strongly criticized the work of the Commission, since in their opinion it does not interpret the mechanism well, does not use its tools and only interpreted its task narrowly. Then, further blackmailing the European Commission, Representative Körner also stated that if the Commission agrees to the Hungarian promises, then Ursula von der Leyen will be held personally responsible.
They also try to prove the justification of the withdrawal of EU funds by saying that, according to them, Hungary did not meet the deadlines and there is nothing to evaluate, since the legislation on the measures has only just been created. Of course, the representatives are not telling the truth, because the Commission extended the deadline for the fulfillment of the 17 commitments by two months, and during this time Hungary has already made the necessary and agreed changes. The next significant milestone will be on November 19, when the Integrity Authority begins its operations, the main task of which is to monitor projects and public procurement procedures implemented with EU funds, thereby protecting EU funds, which is precisely what the government fulfills the purpose of the conditionality decree. However, the Green Party's Freund did not misrepresent this issue when he said that Hungary is proud of the Integrity Authority , because we can really be proud of it, they write.
