Despite the energy crisis caused by the war and EU sanctions, 72 percent of Hungarians did not see an increase in their utility costs compared to last year, said the Mária Kopp Institute for Population and Families (KINCS), presenting the results of a representative research.

KINCS wrote on the basis of a survey conducted on October 19-26, with a telephone interview of a thousand people, that 63 percent of the respondents pay the same amount and 9 percent less utilities this year than last year.

They added that

this is primarily due to the utility reduction policy, and also to the growing energy awareness of Hungarians.

It was pointed out that by the government continuing to maintain reduced utility prices up to the level of average consumption, every Hungarian family saves HUF 181,000 per month on average.

According to the KINCS survey, the population follows several ways of saving money: the majority of them are characterized by the conscious and frugal consumption of electricity and water (90 and 84 percent respectively), the use of energy-saving devices, such as LED lamps or low-consumption household appliances (80 percent), and continuous maintenance of heating equipment (72 percent).

The majority of those participating in the public opinion poll heat with gas, followed by the number of those who heat with wood, district heating and other methods, and six out of ten consciously control the temperature of their home.

Savings can also be increased by replacing windows and improving insulation, a quarter of the respondents paid attention to these, they added.

"Primarily, it is a result of the utility reduction policy and, in addition, people's frugal use of energy that almost three quarters of Hungarians do not have to pay more for utilities than a year ago," the announcement states.
