The NATO parade in Bucharest and the Romanian parade in Székelyföld, which was more restrained than in previous years, characterized the Thursday events marking Romania's national holiday.
On Thursday, around two hundred people in Sepsiszentgyörgy, and up to three hundred at the Kézdivásárhely event, which was heralded as a big bang, celebrated the 104th anniversary of the Gyulafehérvár assembly declaring the annexation of Transylvania to Romania, which has been considered a national holiday by the eastern neighbor since 1990.
For years now, the county seat of Triszék has been the favorite parade ground of Romanian extremists on December 1st, which so far has not turned into a scandal despite all attempts at provocation.
For years, the "fighters" of the New Right-Wing organization from different parts of Romania marched noisily on the main street of Sepsiszentgyörgy, greatly violating the dignity and sense of comfort of the 72 percent Hungarian locals. The formal presence of the gendarmerie did not deter them from shouting anti-Hungarian slogans, and the repeated request of the presbytery fell on deaf ears.
The Nemzet Útja Egyesület - the main animator of the desecration of the Uz-völgy military cemetery - called its supporters to Kézdivásárhely to celebrate this year. The appeal published by association president Mihail Tarnoveanu on the social media page of the organization sought to mobilize the following, among other things:
Romanians from Transylvania, Moldavia and Havasalföld meet on the first of December where it is most difficult for Romania: Kézdivásárhely! Brothers, the heart of the country, Kovaszna cries out for the freedom of the Romanians!
They are going there, they said, where they "wanted to kill us with home-made bombs" on December 1st 2015 - see the calvary of the "Székely terrorists", István Beke and Zoltán Szőcs -, they are preparing to gather in the area where "our national identity was hit by the fiercest attack". The president also announced a fundraiser in order to solve the transport of the participants from Brasov, Kovaszna and Báko, to ensure the flags necessary for the parade, as well as the professional sound system, since during their event patriotic songs and speeches will be played in addition to the national anthem, he predicted.
On the eve of the holiday, István Ráduly, the government commissioner of Kovászna county, stated at a press conference:
those who are preparing to participate in the event should come peacefully and do so because they really want to celebrate, not to stand out with some extraordinary act that immediately provides a topic for the media.
At the same time, he called on law enforcement agencies to act immediately and decisively in the event of any kind of problem or disorder.
Compared to the increased preparations, the quietest commemoration in recent years took place at the Mihai Viteazul statue group in Sepsiszentgyörgy and in the park surrounding the Áron Gábor statue in Kézdivásárhely.
The official part of the celebration was short and restrained in both locations, the representatives of the local Romanians, with some exaggeration, spectacularly moved away from the activists waving huge flags, even during the hour of unification. This time, the parades surrounding the city were also missed.
At the military parade held as part of the central event in Bucharest, not only the Romanian army, which paraded 1,500 soldiers and 120 vehicles, presented some of the latest defense and combat equipment, foreign NATO corps stationed in the country were also represented, so the celebratory military parade was also a small demonstration of strength. although due to unfavorable weather, the air force show was canceled much to the disappointment of the onlookers
2022Plusz: exactly 20 years ago today, on the first of December, a crowd of one to two hundred people gathered in front of the Kempinski Hotel, where a reception was held on the occasion of Romania's national holiday, with the participation of Romanian Prime Minister Adrian Nastase and Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Medgyessy. The Medgyessy's famous toast indicates the symbolic behavior of the left: they don't need Transylvania, for them there is only a country, but not a nation! Among other things, this is why the left will always fail in the national elections, because it betrayed and continues to betray our brothers across the border.
At that mass event twenty years ago, the demonstrators under Hungarian and Árpád-striped flags said that they were protesting because the Hungarian Prime Minister was celebrating the loss of Transylvania, because on December 1, 1918, the unification of Transylvania with Romania was announced in Gyulafehérvár.
The street demonstration was not announced to the police, so the crowd was pushed out of the square in front of the hotel by the Emergency Police unit. The unannounced demonstration was organized by the Lelkismistet '88 group and its leader, György Budaházy.
