"The protection of human rights is a smokescreen designed to cover up the real reasons for US interventions," says Gerry Sussman, a professor at the University of Portland. The American researcher spoke to Magyar Hírlap about the geopolitical connections of the Russian-Ukrainian war, emphasizing that the only foreign policy goal of the White House is to ensure the hegemony of the USA against anyone and at all costs.

All American presidents and both parties in the United States have been part of the ongoing cold war against Russia, as the demand for global hegemony is at the forefront of their foreign policy, and therefore it is essential for them that every single recalcitrant government and leader in the world recognizes the dominance of the neoliberal economic order - stated Gerry Sussman, professor at Portland State University, to Magyar Hírlap's question. According to him, there is no question that the USA provoked the Russian invasion and that the war did not start in 2022. Moreover, Ukraine has been, in a sense, a kind of battleground state since the Second World War.

The globalization and propaganda expert sees the situation in Eastern Europe, but also in the wider world, as gloomy.

"The protection of human rights is a smokescreen designed to hide the real reasons for US interventions,

at the same time, it is perfectly clear that the State Department, the Pentagon and the CIA have been ready to support even the most brutal fascist regimes for a long time, as long as it serves the interests of the USA", said Sussman, and then recalled the covert action magazine published in CovertAction Magazine, which deals with the secret services and Washington's foreign policy his September article, in which he analyzes Ukrainian-American relations from the Second World War to the present day.

After 1945, genocidals such as Stepan Bandera, Jaroszlav Sztecko or Mikola Lebed came under American protection and had close ties with MI6 and the CIA. At the beginning of the 1950s, the latter, relying on former collaborators, also tried to start an uprising, shooting down 85 agents in Ukraine, but the action failed. Nevertheless, Langley and the White House continued to support and use Ukrainian ultranationalists in anti-Soviet intelligence. Sztecko, who approved of the Holocaust in his diary and dreamed of an ethnically pure country until the end of his life, was welcomed by Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush.

“With the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the United States thought it finally had Russia under control. Under the autocratic, vodka-driven rule of Boris Yeltsin, the United States was asked to manage a neoliberal, "shock therapy" program," the professor reminded, adding that this solution and American-style capitalism, however, pushed the Russian economy into a severe recession.

Taking advantage of this, the Clinton administration proceeded to expand NATO, thereby breaking the agreement between the elder Bush and Mikhail Gorbachev, which stated that Moscow would take note of German reunification, but in return would not expand the military organization "an inch" towards the East.

As for Ukraine, Gerry Sussman pointed out, the United States saw the opportunity to bring it under its influence in the 2004 presidential election. During the campaign, high-ranking officials visiting Kyiv gave each other a handshake, in addition, "regime-changing" organizations such as the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), USAID, Freedom House, and György Soros' Open Society Institute moved every stone, Viktor For Yushchenko's victory. However, the pro-American politician "worn out" by 2010, reaching only 5.5 percent.

Gerry Sussman emphasized at this point: he brought it under the roof with the mediation of Germany and France

According to the confession of the former Ukrainian president, the Minsk agreements served to deceive the Russians.

"Our goal was to first stop the threat, or at least delay the war, to provide eight years to develop the economy and strong armed forces," Poroshenko said this summer.

According to the professor, there is no question that the United States is deeply and actively involved in the Ukrainian crisis. And finally, regarding the Orwellian nature of war propaganda, he quoted the famous linguist, Noam Chomsky, who recently said: "It is very interesting that in the American discourse it is almost mandatory to call the invasion an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine." Search for it on Google, you will find hundreds of thousands of results. Of course they were provoked. Otherwise I wouldn't be constantly referring to it as an "unprovoked invasion."
