They can hold Christmas services in Transcarpathia. The Magyar Református Szeretetszolgált (MRSZ) took the light of the Star of Bethlehem to Transcarpathia with one hundred and eight solar lamps, five hundred battery lamps, four hundred kilograms of candles and two power generators. Thanks to donations, they are able to hold holiday services even in the event of a power outage.
On December 20, the MRSZ minibuses carrying donations arrived in Beregszász. The one hundred and eight solar lamps went to the one hundred and eight Subcarpathian Reformed Church. The congregations distribute the five hundred flashlights, the four hundred kilograms of candles and the two power generators among the institutions and families.
In addition, a ton of non-perishable food and two hundred and eighty shoe boxes filled with gifts were taken to churches across the border, and one hundred and forty MRSZ Pöttyös Panna dolls were donated to orphans and half-orphans raised in children's homes.
The Munkács Children's Hospital received cauldrons, cauldron houses and tarpaulin tents so that they can provide meals for the children cared for in the medical institution even during power outages.
Sándor Zán Fábián, bishop of the Subcarpathian Reformed Church, thanked the donations on behalf of the congregations, and said: the charity campaign called the Star of Bethlehem conveys a message approaching Christmas that points to God through human unity.
As a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the regular power outages are causing an increasing problem throughout Ukraine, including Transcarpathia. That is why the MRSZ announced a fundraiser under the name Betlehemi szillag, in the framework of which candles and flashlights were expected, and high-performance solar lamps were purchased from the financial donations received to help the Reformed churches in Transcarpathia.
