There was another armed showdown between the migrants, this time in Zombor. Afghan and Syrian immigrants are known to have attacked each other with Kalashnikovs and machetes. Two migrants were wounded in the shooting, and one of them died according to press reports, but this has not been officially confirmed. According to the locals, the perpetrators may have lived in a nearby illegal migrant camp.
M1 understands that two groups of migrants attacked each other with automatic weapons and machetes. Serbian media reported on several injured migrants who were taken to hospital. One of them is in serious condition. But there were also reports that one of the injured had died.
The location was an abandoned factory building in Zombor, where the migrants lived. They exchanged information, and from here they could start the settlement.
“I heard gunshots. There were also wounded. It was terrible. Zombor was once a very peaceful town, but the migrants ruined it. We can no longer take our children to hiking spots and playgrounds, because there is nothing for them. I was born here, but I think that neither I nor my children are safe," complained a local resident.
It is known that Afghan and Syrian immigrants clashed, approximately thirty of them. A total of 71 migrants were caught and transported by bus to the reception center in Adasevci near Sid.
According to the police, the locals are not in immediate danger, but the Zomborians are still afraid. The old warehouse buildings were completely evacuated by the police in the morning. The garbage left here by the migrants was transported with machines and trucks.
"Most people come here, to the abandoned warehouses, and tents have been set up on both sides of the canal. This is a suitable area for them to pull themselves up and hide. I don't think these incidents will stop. They will clash again in no time. It is feared that the locals will also fall victim to the next showdown," the president of a local civil society organization worried.
There have been several armed clashes in Serbia in the past period: most of the time, migrants or people smugglers shot at each other. Last November, immigrants were shooting in the open street in Horgos. In Subotica, there was a shooting in the Makkhetes forest in October.
