The Hungarian Prime Minister compared Ukraine to Afghanistan and called it "no man's land" when he privately hosted some foreign journalists who had come to the closed conference of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium.

In response to this, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested Hungary's ambassador to Kyiv, and later Borisz Filatov, the mayor of Dnipro, reacted to Viktor Orbán's words in an unqualified Telegram post, which Civilek.Info wrote about here.

A journalist from The American Conservative reported on Viktor Orbán's scandalous statements, and now Roland Tichy, a German writer, economist and journalist, summarized what the Hungarian Prime Minister said behind closed doors.

According to the German journalist, Viktor Orbán speaks much more freely at such events than at other times, because "there are no press inspectors, like in Berlin, who force journalists to keep what they hear strictly secret." As he wrote : Viktor Orbán only says this when asked about it:

I stand by what I say, why shouldn't you write it?

According to Roland Tichy, Viktor Orbán destroyed all hope that Putin would give up the war.

After all, presidential elections are coming up, and war losers don't win elections, not even manipulated ones (…) Meanwhile, Russia transformed its economy into a war economy. Weapons and ammunition are being supplied, the war machine has started

- said the Hungarian Prime Minister, according to the German writer, who adds in his article that Viktor Orbán "is not the pro-Russian person they like to portray him as". According to the economist, the Hungarian Prime Minister explained that he knows the cruelty of the Russians, referring to the events of 1956.

Moscow is playing for time

According to Tichy, behind closed doors, the prime minister also talked about the fact that there is no evidence of weakness on the part of the Russians. He recalled that at the beginning of the war, the Ukrainians also dealt huge blows to the Russians, but this war has already entered its second phase, which is supported by the industrial war machine and the population of Moscow.

Russia always plays for time, and it sees time on its side in this war as well. Of course, high-tech weapons are valuable, but the war will ultimately be decided by the soldiers on the ground

– the German economist summarized Viktor Orbán's thoughts. According to him, Orbán explains his final conclusion with these, that neither the United States nor the European Union had any recognizable strategy other than to strengthen Ukraine's legitimate resistance.

"There will be afghanization"

The writer also mentions that, according to Viktor Orbán, the goal is not to conquer Ukraine, because that would result in an immediate guerrilla war. According to him, the horrors of the war destroyed any willingness in Ukraine to accept a pro-Russian puppet government.

"And then Ukraine does not belong to anyone. There will be Afghanization," he quotes the prime minister.

According to Orbán, as Tichy writes, war goals are formed in war. Russia had to give up its original goals. Orbán sees that Russia is now striving for a buffer zone along the now disputed Donbas contact line. Total destruction, scorched earth, total annihilation (…) A kind of death zone between Western Ukraine and NATO and Russia.

According to the journalist, this is precisely why Orbán is demanding an immediate ceasefire. According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, as he writes, areas must be defined, conditions must be formulated and negotiated, guarantees must be promised, which will take several months.

However, such a cease-fire is ruled out by Kiev, which has set itself the goal of recapturing the territories occupied by Russia (…) In Europe, however, Germany is the biggest loser: instead of cheap piped gas, it has to buy expensive liquefied natural gas from the United States.

The isolated Orbán

However, the writer emphasizes in his article that with this theory he is quite "isolated in the European Union". Viktor Orbán rejects the desired unified EU state - the German writer points out - and insists on the original concept of a union of sovereign states.

As for migration, it does not want to participate in mass immigration like Germany or France. He rejects the orientation of social policy towards sexual minorities and their privileges, as well as the policy aimed at gender equality in favor of family-centeredness - the journalist describes the position of the Hungarian state. He adds: Orbán rejects blind enthusiasm for the EU and exit from the EU.
