Dr. Lajos Békefy writes on the Felvidék.ma portal about Reformed Bishop László Tőkés's letter entitled "Evangelical message from Királyhágó - in the new year", which was published by the bishop on January 16, 2023. We will look at this.

Among other things, Békefy puts it this way: The prophetic voice of that time, which brought the great turning point in the modern history of Transylvania and the whole of Romania in 1989, echoed in my soul while reading the message. I will now only deal with the forward-looking part of the two-and-a-half-page, analytical, retrospective and forward-looking message, and - with the prior permission of Bishop Tőkés - I will quote a part of the letter.

The reason for speaking out is clearer than ever from this letter of László Tőkés, who spoke out in those prophetic days and protested against the corrupted power and corrupt church relations with his personal, unshakable resistance and templar protest for years.

And this is the question that leads to a deep and honest historical confrontation, and even compels us: as the objective of the Szilágycsehi call issued on December 28, 1989, "have we succeeded, and if so, to what extent have we succeeded in bringing about - internal - church system change?"

Were we, as good leavens, able to enforce God's Word and will in the world, or did the world and worldly politics conquer space and prevail in Christ's church? In other words and all things considered: have we remained faithful to the spirit of Timisoara, its liberating and renewing heritage?".

If we want to live...

More than three decades after the prophetic times in Temesvár, the prophetic word and message of Nagyvárad ends the letter with a sober sense of reality and a spirit attentive to God. After all, now only the future is at stake in terms of the survival of our Hungarianness and our churches in Transylvania, near Királyhágó, in Romania. Let the Varad message that meets the biblical criteria be known to as many Hungarians as possible in the Carpathian Basin and the wider world, so I am copying the closing sentences of László Tőkés' letter here.

Start as many of us as possible to honest self-examination, turn our attention and creative energies in the direction of action "as it can be and as it can be", because in many respects we are on the 24th hour.

"If we want to live, we must get rid of the grip of power and party politics, majority oppression and minority opportunism. We should listen to and serve Christ alone. In this conviction and aspiration, all, even the camps facing each other in a hostile manner, can find each other and come to an agreement. This is what the good and interest of our Transylvanian Hungarians demand.

In the midst of our present-day vicissitudes similar to wandering in the desert, let us obey the Lord's commandment: "You shall not have foreign gods before me!" (Exodus 20,3). And with the diabolical temptation of the globalist world power, which promises "all the kingdoms of the world and their glory", we confront the words of our Lord Christ: "Get thee behind, Satan, for it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only!" (Mt 4,8-10)".
