Ursula von der Leyen and Manfred Weber would already strengthen EU border protection. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also reacted to the news on his social media page: "Well, right! The Hungarians are not right, but they will be right!"

Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, called the settlement of the Bulgarian-Turkish border the most urgent task regarding the strengthening of the EU's land borders. He said this in the plenary session of the European Parliament in Brussels during the debate on migration and asylum - read on the page linked to Viktor Orbán's post.

Migration is a European problem that must be solved with European means, von der Leyen said, pointing out:

"The most pressing problems are currently occurring on the land border between Bulgaria and Turkey. We can strengthen it with administrative capacity, provide infrastructure and equipment such as drones, radars and other surveillance tools, as we have done in recent years in Romania, Spain, Greece and Poland. We can also increase the presence of FRONTEX," said the President of the European Commission.

According to Manfred Weber, the faction leader of the European People's Party, "fences are also necessary in exceptional cases. What is an exceptional case is a possibility, and the EU must be able to finance it."

This was opposed by the leader of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, Iratxe Garcia. According to him, "we cannot be the fortress of Europe, but we must protect the Europe of solidarity".
