Péter Márki-Zay made another shocking statement regarding the foreign financing of the left. The leader of the Mendiki Magyarországá Mozgalom (MMM) admitted in the Wednesday program of Vásárhelyi Television that
THE SPENDING OF THE ROLLING DOLLARS WAS NOT TRANSPARENT, THERE WAS NO INVOICE OR CONTRACT FOR EVERYTHING.
In an amazing way, he spoke indignantly about the investigation by the State Audit Office, because he thinks they have no right to audit MMM. Márki-Zay claimed that the legislation was amended after the parliamentary elections, and it must have been because of him - but in fact in July 2021 the law on the transparency of non-governmental organizations carrying out activities capable of influencing public life entered into force, and based on this - contrary to Márki-Zay's claim - the ÁSZ can also investigate MMM, for example.
Márki-Zay confusedly stated in the program: "The purpose of the audit is still the use of money, so the mission of the State Audit Office has not changed, in this sense it has nothing to do with us." The mayor of Hódmezővásárhely explained that the ÁSZ also addressed questions to the MMM in tax and data protection matters, for which their lawyer suggested that they should not even answer this, but they do, because they are supporters of transparency. The latter's statement was quickly refuted by Péter Márki-Zay, as he said that he did not have all the invoices that would prove the campaign expenses. The awkward explanation was verbatim:
"We are now accounting for the campaign period, from that they requested, all the contracts, the invoice behind them, excuse me, the invoice behind them, and even supporting copies, and where we have them (contracts, invoices - ed.) we have also submitted them …..and of course not everything, er, so not every 1,800 HUF invoice has a contract or supporting documents that we knew, we of course submitted them.”
With this, the former prime ministerial candidate of the dollar left admitted that the spending of the rolling dollars was not even transparent during the campaign period. This is also interesting because, according to Péter Márki-Zay's previous statements, the money received from America was spent long after last April's elections, for example, they used it to support the campaign of the left in the Jászberény local government election in January.
It is worth remembering that Márki-Zay revealed in an interview last summer that even in June several hundred million forints had arrived from the United States from a foundation. It later turned out that it was an organization called Action for Democracy, which was created just before the Hungarian election, and whose task was to influence Hungarian domestic politics in order to change the government. The head of the foundation is Dávid Korányi, who is a confidant of Mayor Gergely Karácsony and Gordon Bajnai, former left-wing prime minister.
