There are indeed "examples of Americans trying to influence the public life of a country," the left-wing portal points out.
The scandal surrounding the dollar left has not subsided - it is clear from Monday's article on HVG.hu, in which even the newspaper, which cannot be accused of being pro-government, admits: "what is known is that
the circles connected to the American Democrats really sent money to the opposition's campaign, and the opposition discreetly kept quiet about it."
At the same time, the portal calls it a "conspiracy theory" - as "expected" from an opposition newspaper - that "the CIA or the American government is directly behind the subsidies".
But in its article, the portal mentions, among other things: "although there are fears on the side of the government and hopes on the opposition side that Orbán may be in danger if he kicks the dust with the Americans too much, the prime minister probably does not have to fear this."
According to the HVG
"there are examples of the Americans trying to influence the public life of a country, as happened, for example, in Bulgaria or Hungary in 2014",
according to the paper, "Orbán's support is too strong for such a move to steer political processes in a direction favorable to Washington, while at the same time running the risk of pushing the Orbán regime even further to the East."
