The names of two representatives, the Belgian socialist politician Maria Arena and the Italian social democrat Alessandra Moretti, member of the European Parliament (EP), are also included in the international arrest warrant issued against the Italian social democrat Andrea Cozzolino. Together with the Belgian socialist Marc Tarabella, who was arrested last week, they form the quartet of MEPs that, under the leadership of former MEP Pier Antonio Panzeri (Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats), are involved in hundreds of thousands of euros in corruption, as well as money laundering and participation in a criminal organization.

Belgian investigative judge Michel Claise issued the arrest warrant for Maria Arena and Alessandra Moretti on February 10. Pier Antonio Panzeri, the alleged leader of the four-member criminal network, has entered into a plea deal with Belgian prosecutors, according to an international arrest warrant obtained by the Belgian newspaper Politico.

The quad will solve it

Of the three members of the "quadruple", Marc Tarabella has been arrested so far. Several organs of the international media tried to present Tarabella as a victim with sensational, biased articles. Among other things, the arrest warrant reveals that Arena and Moretti acted according to Panzeri's instructions at a meeting on a European Parliament resolution on Qatar at the end of 2021. "Qatar solved," press secretary Giuseppe Meroni texted Panzeri.

After the meeting, Panzeri received information about what had happened from Maria Arena, as well as from Francesco Giorgi - another former assistant - who

he was the life partner of the imprisoned Eva Kaili, the vice-president of the European Parliament.

Is everyone innocent?

"I can only say that it was a legitimate exchange of information, as part of normal parliamentary political activity," Meroni told Poilitico. And Moretti flatly denied the accusations brought against him when asked by the newspaper.

According to Politico, the revelation of the series of serious crimes "shook Brussels":

the "institution that often acts grandiosely in matters of the rule of law and anti-corruption went through a period of soul-searching,

while its leaders tried to distance themselves from those involved and introduce reforms," says the Brussels paper . The body does not elaborate on what these "reforms" consist of.

The arrest warrant includes the names of two Moroccans considered key to the allegedly corrupt network: spy Mohamed Belahrech, codenamed M118, who has been known to European intelligence services for quite some time, and Abderrahim Atmoun, Rabat's ambassador to Warsaw.
