Donating blood can save lives, said Anita Herczegh, wife of former President János Áder, patron of the Civil Blood Donation on Thursday, at the Budapest location of the national program series. The program series is organized by the local civil communities, in many settlements jointly with the Hungarian Red Cross.

I have been donating blood regularly since I was a university student, I always try to draw attention to the importance of donating blood - said Anita Herczeg, who donated blood herself after the statement.

Sándor Nagy, the professional deputy general director of the National Blood Transfusion Service, explained: the Civil Blood Donation started in 2019, "even the Covid epidemic did not break its momentum", last year more than three thousand people applied, and now there are already fifteen hundred in the first week.

He emphasized that the winter period is always more difficult and represents the biggest challenge in terms of blood supply, which is why the event is organized in this period.
