On the occasion of the regrettable one-year anniversary of the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the CÖF-CÖKA held a press conference in the afternoon of Friday, February 24, 2023, in front of the Hungarian Representation of the European Commission. In this context, a lightning demonstration was also held, and we presented a petition to the leaders of the Representation.

The CÖF-CÖKA presidency issued a petition with the following text on the one-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine:

"Peace is our weapon!"

calling

in connection with the one-year anniversary of the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war

“Libraries have been written about what your rights are on this earth. You only have one real right: to live in peace. But this is precisely what they forget most often." (Albert Wass)

Another war overshadows the faith and hope of the people of the old continent in permanent peace. It's been 1 year since the world that considers itself civilized - not having learned from the history lessons steeped in the horrors of the two world wars - forgets that it has been confirmed countless times in world history that all bloodshed is pointless and that controversial issues must be decided immediately at the negotiating table.

The whole of Europe is suffering the effects of the current armed conflict, its consequences are already incomprehensible to common sense. And all because of a war that should never have happened.

When parents mourn their children, and children mourn their parents, political interests must be overridden by the desire for an immediate ceasefire and the desire to make peace as soon as possible. Nevertheless, one year after the outbreak of the war, the prospects for peace are getting smaller and smaller, while the chances of further worsening and widening of the conflict are increasing.

CÖF – CÖKA, as one of the largest representatives of real civil society in Hungary, strongly expects all responsible politicians of the international community to act immediately and proactively in order to create peace, and to avoid any decisions and statements that could lead to the prolongation and escalation of the war .

At the same time, we "call for peace" to all domestic and international civil organizations, communities, and individuals who also consider our goal important, so that by joining forces we can actively serve international peace and security.

In addition to sympathy and solidarity, the members of civil society must act in unison - free of ideologies - and make their voice heard in such a powerful way that it is able to "crumple under itself" not only the noise of war, but also the emergence of interests contrary to the conclusion of peace, contributing to the most important moral to our duty and mission, to save human lives and our civilization.

In the spirit of this, we are now pinning the true motto of civilians on our flag:

"Peace is our weapon!"
