There are 23,000 children in the country who were not given the opportunity to wake up with their own biological family and return home to them. The State Secretary responsible for care policy of the Ministry of the Interior spoke about the social role of child protection on Thursday in a church-run child protection institution in Székesfehérvár.

Attila Fülöp: More than three-quarters of child protection is provided by church providers, and this work can only be done with the cooperation of churches, municipalities and the state

At the handover of the new headquarters of the Szent István Greek Catholic Child Protection Center, Attila Fülöp stated: "if it breaks, if it breaks", the child must be protected.

The state secretary emphasized: if a child is removed from his own family or cannot be brought up in the family where he was born, he needs immediate, fast and effective help, which the child protection system in Hungary can provide.

He added that the newly handed over building, which helps the lives of 500 children, is a "new castle" for this help. He said that there are 23,000 children in the country who were not given the opportunity to wake up with their own biological family and return home to them. The church, which has 2,000 years of experience in this field, offers irreplaceable help in processing and healing this trauma, he noted.

Metropolitan Archbishop Fülöp Kocsis solemnly blessed the new headquarters of the Szent István Greek Catholic Child Protection Center, which is maintained by the Archdiocese of Hajdúdorog. Székesfehérvár county bishop Antal Spányi and András Cser-Palkovics (Fidesz), the town's mayor, were present at the event.
