If even more people flee to Europe from the year-long war in Ukraine, a fair distribution of refugees will be necessary within the European Union, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said in a statement in Berlin on Friday.
The head of the German Ministry of the Interior emphasized: Poland, with a population of 40 million, has so far accepted 1.5 million Ukrainian refugees, and Germany with its population of 84 million has provided shelter to one million people fleeing war, while Spain, with a population of 47 million, has only accepted 160,000 refugees .
"This cannot go on like this," Faeser said on the anniversary of the outbreak of war.
Due to the ever-increasing number of refugees arriving from Ukraine, the German states are putting increasing pressure on the federal government for more help to care for the refugees.
Last week, the Minister of the Interior held talks with representatives of the interest protection organization of German cities and towns, who also underlined the need for financial support. According to Markus Lewe, the president of the organization, fortunately, the population is still happy to help those seeking asylum in the country, but, as he said, we need help to keep it that way.
Lewe also called for greater solidarity within Europe. "Poland and Germany accepted about half of the Ukrainian refugees arriving in the EU," he pointed out, adding that "a fair distribution of refugees within the EU would be necessary."

And no one can control which country the Ukrainians who are forced to flee will choose as refuge, and no one wants to influence it. That is why this German idea is strange, since according to them they want to deport the refugees - against their will. They already wanted to play this with the migrants, while they were waiting for them with open arms.
