Access to justice is on the agenda at today's judicial council meeting in Brussels. Our country has achieved serious success in this area in recent years. In Hungary, the conditions for the effective functioning of the courts are given, and they perfectly meet the expectations of the modern age, as Justice Minister Judit Varga wrote on her Facebook page on Friday.

Judit Varga drew attention: this is confirmed by the EU Judicial Scoreboard, from which it can be concluded that the level of digitization of the justice system in our country is at the forefront of Europe. We are also at the forefront when it comes to the timeliness of the administration of justice: Hungary is 4th in the EU in terms of the estimated time required for the completion of civil and economic litigation cases at all court levels, and 2nd in the EU in terms of first-instance adjudication of administrative cases.

The minister reminded that victim assistance is an important element of access to justice. The Hungarian government has long been committed to the development of the domestic victim support system, currently the services of Victim Support Centers and Points are available in 14 counties and the capital, with the aim of achieving nationwide coverage by 2025.

The Hungarian state victim assistance system is also unique in Europe, as it works closely with government offices, the police, and civil and church organizations. Thanks to the opt-out system for direct access to victims, introduced in January 2021 on the Dutch model, in addition to continuously decreasing crime statistics, victim helpers are reaching more and more victims every year.

In Judit Varga's post, she pointed out that the issue of action against anti-Semitism is also on the table of the Judicial Council today.

"The Government of Hungary has declared zero tolerance against all forms of anti-Semitism, we are committed to ensuring that Hungary continues to be a thriving arena for Jewish communities and Jewish culture in the future, providing a safe home for all people, regardless of religion.

Therefore, during the Hungarian EU presidency due in the second half of 2024, we will focus on the issue of action against anti-Semitism," the minister added.
