Today is the Memorial Day of the Hungarian Coat of Arms and Flag. In December 2014, the Parliament decided to declare March 16 as the Memorial Day of the Hungarian Flag and Coat of Arms.

The promoters of the Day of the Hungarian Flag and Coat of Arms - then Fidesz faction leader Antal Rogán and deputy faction leader Szilárd Németh - originally set March 23, the XXI of 1848. the day of the adoption of the law was proposed, but since this day has been the day of Hungarian-Polish friendship since 2007, March 16 was finally designated as the holiday. (Act XXI of 1848, consisting of only two paragraphs, made it mandatory for all public buildings, public institutions and Hungarian ships to use the national flag and the coat of arms of the country on public holidays.) Hungarian Flag and Coat of Arms Day provides an opportunity for educational, scientific and cultural institutions, the media, civil organizations, and communities to express our respect for our traditions related to our national symbols. The country celebrated the day for the first time in 2015 .

For the Hungarian people, national symbols are of special importance because, even though the borders of Hungary do not coincide with the borders of the nation, they are still unified all over the world due to the common linguistic, cultural and historical traditions of the nation.
