Andrea Hegedűs, a representative of the DK parliament, was able to use the commemoration of the city in 1848 for political gain. CÖF did not ask for this and left the event.

The Civil Solidarity Forum (CÖF) would also have laid a wreath at the central city ceremony, which was organized by the municipality of Miskolc in honor of the 1848 revolution and freedom struggle. At the ceremony, those present were surprised to find that Andrea Hegedűs, a member of parliament of the Democratic Coalition, also gave a speech at the Petőfi statue, although this was not included in the invitation.

"We don't usually lay wreaths at city celebrations, but separately, but since we saw in the invitation that Pál Veres would only make a speech, we decided to participate and lay a wreath as well"

Attila Lengyel, head of CÖF Club Miskolc , told boon.hu. He added: they were surprised by the speech of Andrea Hegedűs.

"Perceiving that the representative was not talking about the revolution and freedom struggle of 1848-49, but rather a party political narrative, we left the wreath-laying there and commemorated separately"

he emphasized.

He also pointed out that what was said by Andrea Hegedűs did not correspond to the dignity of the holiday, so they could not identify with it.

"If it had been a speech related to the revolution, we would have had no objections, but giving such a speech on the national holiday is disrespectful"

he pointed out.

In his celebratory speech, the DK representative repeatedly promoted his party's national narrative, among other things, he qualified the measures of the current government.

Dr. Attila Lengyel, head of the CÖF Club Miskolc, summarized the events as follows:

The decision was joint, there was no need to just face each other. We thought of two options: we would wait for the company to leave and then place the wreath on the pedestal of the Petőfi statue or go out to the national flag in Diósgyőr at the FIDESZ/Dr. for the János Kiss event. We stayed at the latter and placed a wreath there.
