The leadership of the Christian Democratic People's Party has asked György Hölvényi, the party's member of the European Union Parliament and a member of the European People's Party faction, to become an advocate for peace, Csaba Latorcai, the executive secretary of the KDNP, announced on Saturday in Lakitelek.

At the press conference of the Sándor Giesswein party, held at the Hungarikum Liget in Lakitelek, Csaba Latorcai said that the leadership of the KDNP had asked György Hölvényi to introduce the pro-peace resolution "crying for peace" adopted by the Hungarian Parliament in the European Parliament on Friday , which was born on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the Russian-Ukrainian war. And do everything to ensure that the European People's Party returns to the heritage of the Christian Democratic founding fathers and moves from the side of war to the side of peace, he added.

István Simicskó, the KDNP faction leader, emphasized the importance of the meeting and emphasized that Christian democracy represents an important value in Hungarian politics. With 19 representatives, the faction of the Christian Democratic People's Party is currently the second strongest representative group in the Parliament.

At the housing professional meeting, the participants stated that, despite the difficult economic situation, the expansion of family support is of particular importance, but the most important thing now is the question of peace, he added.

According to István Simicskó, however, the current leaders of the European Union, the politicians in Brussels, have completely turned away from the idealism and ideology represented by the Christian Democrats, and they specifically demonstrate their support for war every day.

They are not talking about a peace plan, instead "we can see war scenarios from Brussels, which is a serious mistake," he added.

According to the faction leader of the KDNP, the Hungarian government is in favor of ordering a cease-fire as soon as possible and starting the subsequent peace negotiations, because "only this can bring peace closer for all of us".

The supply of more and more weapons to the Ukrainian army only widens the scope and destruction of the war. More people will die, he added.

As he said:

they were sad to see that the Hungarian left did not accept the pro-peace resolution proposal submitted by the representatives of Fidesz and KDNP on Friday.

It is becoming more and more clear that they are testifying in favor of war, since they do not want peace, he added. And Momentum didn't even take part in the debate, which is very unfortunate, since they were basically included on the list of a left-wing coalition to represent those who elected them, but they weren't even able to do that, said the politician.

István Simicskó emphasized that the Hungarian government's pro-peace position is credible and the only viable path.

He added: the Christian Democratic politicians remind us that the desire for peace motivated the establishment of the European Union after the Second World War, and they want such a change to take place in Brussels now.

As he said, they are confident that after the European Parliament elections there will be a kind of reorganization and more and more Christian Democrats and peace-loving politicians will join the leadership in Brussels.

Csaba Latorcai, the executive secretary of the KDNP, announced at the press conference: in accordance with their decision made in the interest of solidarity, as Easter approaches, the KDNP will launch a permanent food collection campaign, which can be registered at [email protected]

As he said: "In Hungary, you can prepare for the biggest Christian and family holiday with peace of mind, but there is no bread on the table for families even a few hundred kilometers from us." There are thousands of families in Ukraine where the head of the family became a victim of the war or the family members lost their job opportunities, he added.

The professional gathering named after Sándor Giesswein takes place in Lakitelek with the participation of Christian Democratic leaders and more than 250 leaders of the basic organizations of the KDNP.

As a priest and papal prelate, Sándor Giesswein represented Christian-social ideals, then during World War I he became increasingly pro-peace and attacked terror, racial discrimination and social injustices in the spirit of Christian humanism.
