Rheinmetall will, among other things, carry out the maintenance and repair of Ukrainian combat vehicles and self-propelled guns in Romania, the spokesperson of the German arms manufacturing group announced on Sunday.
construction work has already begun in the Szatmárnémeti area near the Ukrainian border.
The center can start its work as early as April. According to expectations, "it will play a central role in maintaining the deployability of Western weapon systems used in Ukraine by ensuring their logistical supply." Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall (pictured), emphasized that "one of the company's central efforts is to provide the best possible support to the NATO forces and Ukraine in this critical situation."
The facility will be capable of servicing self-propelled guns, German Leopard, British Challenger tanks, Marder, Fuchs infantry fighting vehicles and military trucks, among others.
In June 2022, Rheinmetall, together with partner company KMW, established a similar maintenance center in Jonava, Lithuania, to support the Lithuanian army and NATO forces stationed in the Baltic states.
