The invitation of the Ukrainian minister to the NATO foreign minister's meeting violates the principle of the unity of the allies, and Hungary will only support Ukraine's integration efforts if the rights of the Transcarpathian Hungarian minority are returned, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced on his social media page.
Péter Szijjártó wrote in a post before the start of the one-and-a-half-day NATO Foreign Ministers' Council meeting: Hungary came here with the hope that no one will question the validity of the previous joint decision, according to which NATO is not a party to the war taking place in our neighborhood, and everything must be done in order to prevent the development of a direct NATO-Russia conflict.
The minister emphasized that the invitation of the Ukrainian foreign minister violates the principle of the unity of the allies within NATO, but in the spirit of constructiveness, Hungary will participate in the meeting.
Péter Szijjártó emphasized that he will make it clear now that Hungary will only and exclusively support any integration efforts of Ukraine if the Ukrainians return to the Transcarpathian Hungarians the rights they had before 2015.
