Ildikó Enyedi will be the president of the joint international jury of the short films competing in the official program of the 76th Cannes Film Festival to be held next month and the Cinef selection, which features the best of the film schools, the organizers announced on Thursday.

In its announcement, the festival reminded that the Cannes festival had a decisive role in the career of the "large-format creator of contemporary Hungarian cinema", where his first film, Az én XX. In 1989, my century won the Golden Camera for the best first film, and in 2021, his work The Story of My Wife was invited to the competition program of the official program.

"With his world-renowned works, Ildikó Enyedi creates a oeuvre that is impressive in its beauty and subtlety," emphasized the organizers.

According to the announcement, for Ildikó Enyedi, the invitation to Cannes for his first feature film in 1989 was an "incredible feeling".

"Being selected meant that they understood that they really saw me, as if a colorful and extravagant community of brilliant artists and film professionals had opened their arms wide to me, an absolute beginner, trusting me when I was just a promise. I still remember every single moment I spent in Cannes at that time," the announcement quoted the director, who is convinced that the young filmmakers coming to the short film competition "will experience the same positive shock" at this year's festival.

"I support them, I hope that this recognition gives them the confidence to continue, to dare while remaining humble and not to lose sight of the bottom line, not to be dazzled by fame," he added.

The jury chaired by Ildikó Enyedi includes Iranian-American screenwriter and director Ana Lily Amirpour, Canadian actress and director Charlotte Le Bon, French actress Karidja Touré and Israeli director, screenwriter, actor and producer Shlomi Elkabetz.

The Cannes festival will be held between May 16 and 27, and at the closing ceremony, Ildikó Enyedi will present the Golden Palm to the best short films invited to the official program, as well as three awards to the best exam films of the film schools. The list of invited short films and the Cinef selection will be published in the coming days.
