Another case is being investigated for the protagonist of the Brussels corruption scandal. The European Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the suspicion that Eva Kaili may have defrauded the European Parliament of 100,000 euros through her assistants. The Greek politician accused of corruption was released from prison in mid-April after four months of detention, but remains under house arrest.

As soon as the protagonist of the Brussels corruption scandal, Eva Kaili, was released from prison, the Brussels Politico is already writing about another corruption case. The former EP vice-president is currently under house arrest with a tracker on his leg .

The Greek socialist politician, along with several of his associates, was arrested by the Belgian authorities in December as part of an investigation into a corruption case. The police seized almost one and a half million euros during house searches.

Stacks of money were also hidden in Eva Kaili's home, around 150,000 euros were found with her. Kaili's father was also caught at a hotel in Brussels while trying to escape with a suitcase full of banknotes. Eva Kaili's partner, Francesco Giorgi, and former Italian EP representative, Pier Antonio Panzeri, were also suspected by the Belgian authorities in the bribery case. They have been under house arrest before. Eva Kaili was released from prison just over a week ago.

According to the suspicion, Eva Kaili may have accepted money from Qatar and Morocco in order to lobby in the Union in favor of Arab countries.

"Representatives, and especially the bureaucrats behind them, hold this position for a very, very long time, so that they really don't have to account to anyone at the national level," said Krisztián Rezső Erdélyi.

This is the reason why politicians in the European Parliament often aim for financial gain - this is what the analyst of the Nézőpont Institute talked about on Kossuth Radio. According to Krisztián Rezső Erdélyi, politicians who could not make a political career in their own country often end up in Brussels.

"They are aware that, basically, if they don't do something very, very stupid in the eyes of the mainstream, i.e. they support such liberal madnesses as migration and gender, then nothing really threatens their position in the long term. From this point on, of course, it is included in the deck that they try to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the system to build a material career path that either conflicts with good morals, or conflicts with the law, or both," said the analyst .

The Hungarian government is interested in ensuring that the center of the union functions well and is above all suspicion

Gergely Gulyás emphasized in last week's Government Information. The minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office emphasized that these cases are capable of weakening faith in the impartiality of the EU institutions.

"We are interested in the fact that the center of the union functions well and is above all suspicion. Compared to this, we see that Brussels is full of corruption cases today, and the EP has been talking about corruption cases for months," said Gergely Gulyás.

The protagonist of the Brussels corruption scandal, Eva Kaili, is also involved in another criminal proceeding - the Brussels news portal Politico has now published new details.

According to this, between 2014 and 2020, he was able to defraud one hundred thousand euros from the European Parliament through his assistants with false payments and also accepted bribes.

The European Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the Greek politician for three possible frauds. This is clear from the letter that the prosecution sent to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. Eva Kaili may have misled the EP about the whereabouts and work of her assistants, benefited from the reimbursement of the false work visits she organized, and accepted bribes from the salaries of her assistants.
