The legislatures of Nebraska and South Carolina, led by Republicans, also rejected the draft law on the banning and significant tightening of abortion by one vote each.

In the Senate of the state of Nebraska, the adoption of the so-called "heartbeat law" was passed on Thursday during the absence of a Republican senator, which would have prohibited the carrying out of artificial abortions after the sixth week of pregnancy, except for cases of incestuous intercourse and rape, as well as pregnancies that threaten the life of the mother. would be an exception.

The state's governor, fellow Republican Jim Pillen , expressed his disappointment and called on the reticent senator to reconsider his position and stand by his previous "commitment to life." Nebraska state law currently prohibits termination of pregnancy after the twentieth week.

The South Carolina state senate also voted Thursday on a bill that includes a total ban on abortion. Lawmakers rejected it 22-21, with 3 Republican senators voting no. The legislative proposal entitled "The Law on the Protection of Human Life" was previously accepted by the lower house of the state legislature. The law, which would have imposed a complete ban on the termination of pregnancy except for incest and rape, will be put on the agenda again in the legislative session starting next January.

Currently, 13 states in the United States have bans on termination of pregnancy at all stages of pregnancy, and in 4 more states, the implementation of the legislation has been suspended by the courts pending the review of petitions for their review.
